More than just products

Our Service

Take advantage of our expertise in sealing technology.

Reconditioning

METAX carries out repair services on mechanical seals, rotary joints and lip seal systems of various types and manufacturers. After analyzing the damage and determining the costs, you decide whether you want a reconditioning or a new component.

General hints

METAX carries out repair services on mechanical seals of any design and manufacturer. For complete cartridge seals, an assembly drawing should be supplied.

Assessments

We elaborate assessments of your failed mechanical seals in order to draw conclusions about the cause of failure. Subsequently we determine which design improvements, different operating modes or improved material combinations can lead to a service life extension. Our service is manufacturer independant.

Analysis of Damage

Condition of the Seal Faces ■Uniformity of the wear pattern ■ Wear tracks ■ Depositions ■ Cracking ■ Spalling ■ Breakouts at edges ■ Chemical attack on the material

Condition of the Secondary Seals

Training Courses and Workshops

Learn to understand seals

In our training courses for technical draftsmen and design engineers, users and maintenance personnel we explain the performance characteristics of various seals and sealing systems for rotating shafts in a comprehensive but practical manner using examples.

Objective

In our training courses, the following contents are explained and conveyed in a practical but comprehensive manner:

Participants

Our training courses are suitable for technical draftsmen and design engineers, users and maintenance personnel and provide an overview of the various technical options for sealing rotating shafts. The number of participants is between 5 and max. 10 persons. Due to the relatively small number of participants, it is possible to deal with individual questions and special problems.

Contents of the training courses

All Relevant Topics in One Training Course

Various areas are relevant and must therefore be considered if rotary seals are to be understood, selected and used correctly. Therefore, we cover three main topics in our training courses.
Seals for rotary equipment

Overview

  • Design and operating principles
  • Constructive designs
  • Criteria for selection depending on the application
  • Performance ranges (sliding speed, temperature and pressure)
  • Comparison of different sealing systems
  • Standards and literature references

Exploit material properties correctly

Material Overview

  • Sliding materials for axial sliding surfaces
  • Sliding materials for radial sliding surfaces
  • Elastomer materials, PTFE compounds, graphites
  • Construction materials (steels and special alloys)

The application is decisive

Arrangement Options and Modes of Operation

  • Single sealing systems
  • Double seals in back-to-back and tandem design
  • Supply systems and monitoring devices
  • Compliance with ATEX and TA-Luft requirements
  • Assembly and commissioning
  • Examples of failure causes

Various areas of application

Applications and Practical Examples

  • Pumps
  • Conveying technology
  • Agitator and mixing technology
  • Fans and ventilators
  • Food technology
  • Vacuum technology
  • Rotary joints

Cost/Benefit Aspects of Optimum Seal Selection

Comparison between investment and runtime Safety of the production process due to increased capital expenditure and enhanced effort in the mode of operation Periodic maintenance effort in comparison to automized supply systems Comparison of assembly efforts for component and cartridge seals
